Crock pot spaghetti sauce/roast

By

Just a few minutes ago, I was in the kitchen cooking up ground beef for my kids' favorite dinner: spaghetti. It is one of those food that just about all kids love, and can never get enough of. I, myself, have enjoyed spaghetti since before I can remember. It is a comfort food, and now when it gets made, my kids will make those memories that will stay with them forever.

I will admit, for a few years, I used the already made sauce that Ragu or Prego made, and all I did was add some meat. It wasn't the same as when my mom made it in the crock pot, and I didn't enjoy it that much. It just didn't taste right to me. Now I am in the habit of using the crock pot to make it with a big enough can of the Hunt's tomato sauce, and I add my own seasoning to it along with everything else that I love in spaghetti.

I have always had meals that were for the most part good in all ways. I found it hard to eat things that didn't smell good. The things I was a little iffy about, although they smelled great, sometimes didn't taste so great. It's one thing to make a fabulous meal that looks great or smells great, what matters is how it tastes.

Getting down to business

I am a sucker for Italian food. Maybe perhaps it is because I am part Italian, or maybe its because I know what I like. Where I live may be a melting pot for a diverse group of ethnicities, we have just about everything here, but a large part of my town is Slavic, Croatian, or Italian, and I will admit all three have great food. There is a little restaurant, well not really little, that has some of the best food any restaurant will ever make. They have a wide range of Mediterranean food that more than likely is cooked for a long enough period that it melts in your mouth, but isn't dry or overcooked. They have a pot roast that is great, and their mostacholi is out of this world.

This past May, I planned my sons birthday dinner for weeks before I actually made it. I planned on making spaghetti for dinner that night, but decided about a week before my sons dinner to also to a pot roast, although I wasn't too sure how I was going to pull it off. In the end, I decided to do the whole meal slightly different then what I thought of. To be able to have a great flavor of the sauce and keep the roast from drying out, I cooked the roast in the crock pot with the sauce.

Nothing beats the flavor of a beef roast cooked in a bath of spaghetti sauce. It is like an orgasm for your mouth that bursts a ton of flavor in your mouth.

Seasoning correctly

To make the perfect meal of spaghetti and roast beef taste even better, you first have to have the correct seasoning for the spaghetti sauce. If you are doing the sauce from complete scratch, get a tomato sauce that is just tomato sauce, nothing in it. I usually get Hunts because it tends to be one of the only ones that is plain tomato sauce. Since I do my sauce in a crock pot, I add everything from minute one. Garlic powder, onions, oregano, thyme, salt, pepper, bay leaves, and of course ground beef. People add different things depending on what they like and don't like, it's a personal choice for them. I also try to add, depending on if I can get it ahead of time, mushrooms. It is not a guarantee that I add them, but when I do it the sauce tastes great. It is always a great idea to taste your sauce as well to make sure that there is a good blend of everything. If it seems like it is missing something, or doesn't have enough of something, go ahead and add it. Not much can make spaghetti go wrong, and in the end it will taste good.

Aren't crock pots the best? I have several "go-to" crock pot recipes when I have a long day at work planned.

I love crock pots. They not only save me time and energy on cooking, but they allow me to spend that extra time with my kids as well.
